84 minute jouvert jam
I only had 84 minutes of the Sugar Mas 40:40 J'ouvert Jam 2011 today, and it is all my fault. I have learned a hard lesson, and that will not happen to me next week for the New Years Day Parade. From tomorrow I am doing what I must do to be ready. I hear this Jam was the best ever in SKB, of course the gloom-ers and doom-ers will say otherwise. I could see both young and old having a good time, and I suspect that is the bottom line.
I have not been this close to such fast moving action for a while, and it brought back memories, and the reality of time. Once upon a time I would lug around a bag of lenses ranging from a 20mm super wide angle to a 300mm telephoto, between primes and zooms. Well gone are those days. I have to travel light and one lens is the order of the day. So I replaced my prized 70-300mm with a 28-200mm, and I am enjoying it. I miss my 300mm so I should upgrade soon to a 28-300mm next.
Shooting in the shade and the cool of the morning is like a piece of cake, but after the sun is high enough so the building shade is gone, you have to be drinking some red bull concoction or something only your grandmother could brew. Of course the sun not only affect the old timers like me but the young folks who are supposed to have all the stamina in the world, we assume. So the bands begin to thin with the rising sun. But there are some who are not giving up, as long as the DJ going, they are with him/her.
I went home at 9.00 AM to replenish the energy. That was the intent, but after breakfast I had an attack of nigger-itis and the City did not see me again until after two. It was like a Sunday. You would not believe that just 4 hours earlier a few thousand persons had the City bursting at the seams.
I enjoyed every minute of my 84. Met a few friends returning for the season, exchanged a few greetings, comments, jokes, and will look forward [DV] to doing that again in 7-days time. So you missed today, but try not to miss the New Year's Day Parade. It is said how you begin the year is how it will go for you. Sound like superstition to me, but I still not taking that chance.
I do not think this backpack began the Jam half full. In SKB we make it, we brew it, we blend it, and we bottle it, nobody does it better.
Only heard of one incident in the Jam, but details are sketchy to non existent, nobody talking. Well, at least we are learning something.
The action continue all week, but the climax next week is what everybody come to see and experience. That is Sugar Mas 40:40 Carnival.
