All is well. Look again.

In looking through one of my photography Facebook Groups I notice a member's complaint, and I can feel his pain. ""GIVING IT UP ? - I’ve been seriously thinking of giving up this entire photography business and selling out. I’ve literally seen weddings being photo’s and filmed with iPhones and even streamed with multiple ones. I think the whole business is about to make a major shift in marketable content as content providers continue to search for (and acquire) lower cost solutions for their clients. One cannot continue to “upgrade” while the market continues to downgrade $$$. It’s a losing battle. Perhaps this is the year?""

Almost everyone goes through this phase. Some of us were more fortunate than others, but this is a reality and we need to help the brothers and sisters in photography overcome this mindset. We may be surprised at the Google response to posting that whole paragraph, in its entirety. To get a feel for this, Google the paragraph and see for yourself. I am of the view that the photographer needs to begin taking his or her photography seriously, and seek to move their status to that of a Professional Photographer. There are times in life and careers, when one has to begin again, start over. And this seem to be one of them, in my view.

In recent times I hear about people with a serious interest in photography who think that they need to carry their photo hobby to a professional level, and have therefore enrolled in a university arts and photography program. That to me is a smart move. There are many people who cannot do this, but they should seek to do the next best thing. Sometimes there is a "no best thing", then what? Every problem has a solution. If there is no solution, then there never was a problem. In life everyone come to that place where we have to really push the envelope and think outside the box. Usually the answer and solution has been staring us in the face, but we were to 'occupied" more like "distracted" to look straight ahead, and maintain focus.

Many photographers get distracted by watching other photographers, and want to be like them. You can operate like them, but you cannot be like them. They are operating from a set of rules and principles, and anyone can apply the rules and principles and attain the attitude that all successful photographers have. All photographers are unique. No two photographers are exactly alike. Every photographer has to develop their our unique-ness. Your unique brand will attract your brand of clients, followers, and only you can determine that. Only you can decide if you want be a ten dollar photographer, or a one hundred dollar photographer, or a one thousand dollar photographer, or a ten thousand dollar photographer, or more.

Do you know that there are photographers earning over one million dollars per year. They are doing just what you are doing. So why can't you do that to? Because you do not have the mindset. How can a twenty dollar photographer attract one million dollars per year? Google million dollar photographers and million dollar photography, and learn something that you can apply to your photography. If you are serious you can make the million dollars, and it does not matter where you are. If you do not believe me just advertise something, maybe a full colour or a black and white life size poster print for three thousand dollars or more and see if you get any queries? Of course be ready to supply the poster when the clients get serious. Print it overseas.

There is a solution for every problem you think you have in photography. Actually you may be the source of the problems you think you have. Spend time with yourself and critically analyze your photography, get your real photography friends to help you. Real photography friends will be happy for you, and not jealous of you. It is difficult to find real photography friends these days. Know that everyone will not handle your photography success well, but soon, of necessity, you will learn to develop a survival strategy for this market place. If you do not learn to thrive, and live in it successfully, you will be deleted.

Take another good look at your photography.
