Carnival 50.
I was begining to look out for CARNIVAL 50, even though it was not going to be anything like what we have grown accustomed to over the years, but it would be something rather than nothing, but now the people in charge are putting certain "things" on pause because another "strain" is supposedly on the loose. I do not have any problem with cancelling anything, and changing plans and programs in the public interest, because we should expect this action from people who are trying their very best to err on the side of caution, and to keep our nation safe. However, nothing has been said yet about the possible effects of the "strain"on our CARNIVAL 50 which is running in de bubble.
It is very strange that this or similar action did not apply to the International Cricket hosted in SKB just months ago, where our safety was tried, tested and proven with a real community spread in the thousands, during the tournament period, but evasive action is already put in place, and nothing of this new strain is on the horizon for SKB. These DECISIONS and ACTIONS do not add up. Maybe the science is to advanced for me. I may be missing something. Maybe they are right, and for their sake I hope they are. Anyway, what goes around comes around, and comes around harder. This old saying seems to be quite true, so we will just have to wait.
SKB carnival may be paused, put on hold, or whatever, but I suspect that it will not be cancelled, as that could be politically incorrect. To cancel this Carnival may not go down well with the constituents. This carnival could be a test and demo for the FUTURE. This presents a FIRT for many things, a taste of what may be coming. In the past carnival made its income from gate receipts, but going virtual could now be icing. Carnival is not just about all the inhouse activities but those on the streets, troupes and more. Let us see if these outdoor activities are scheduled for Carnival 50. I am an optimist and suspect that we shall have our old style CARNIVAL back in full within the next year, two [2] years at most.
Carnival is about photography, pictures and videos. I FEEL carnival by the DEPTH of the street activities. No street activities, no "feel". So what will the photographers do? Photographers are all persons [spectators] who have a device [camera, cell phone, etc] to record images and/or videos. SKB is beautiful all year round, but the happiness, peace and joy is reflected in the commercial enterprises which support the season. Will they, the business houses, be that reflective this year? We just have to wait and see. This is the first Christmas in the "new normal" environment, and we must pay very close attention to every single thing that moves. The future of our CARNIVAL could depend on it.
