... everything quiet, for now!!!

I am looking forward to a very quiet Christmas because we expect that "all hell will break loose" afterwards. Actually we do not wish "any hell" to break loose because "hell" is not nice  neither should it be emulated, but given the pending general election, and the "win or die" stance that the opposition political parties seem to have taken, anything is possible here, according to the Lord Cut in his popular calypso, "Only in St. Christopher". We are all part and parcel of the election process irrespective of our position in either of the 3 categories. Simply, you vote for change, or you vote against change, or you do not vote at all, because you don't, never did and never will, care one [s**t] iota about your native land, but you want everything that you can get out of it to live sky high like a king or queen ... maybe you don't even know the words to our National Anthem, O Land of Beauty. But then again, that is not a problem

... mudoooooo...!!!

This is unbelievable, and if the most truthful person in the world had told me so I would still be like doubting Thomas, but you have to trust your eyes, even though you know that your brain can play tricks on you, and you can sometimes 'see' what is not there, even with your eyes squeezed shut, and if you are as SOBER as Harry Potter's uncle. Mudoooooo is a popular word that I see on Facebook these days. I am no great scholar so I consult with Google web search to learn more about this 'Caribbean' word expression. I must tip my hat to Lord Cut, who is right on the money with his calypso, "Only in St Christopher", but he only gave us a teeny weeny sample in his song. I am still laughing at my Google search results, but some of you may not find that as hilarious or as humorous as I do, when you search for MUDOOOOOO. But then, you don't have my sense of humor, nor my grip on reality. Mudoooooo .... hahahahaha..... It sweet me!!!  Mudoooooo ... I be

wow!!! great color ... with Picasa3, no rocket science

My self-assignments have materialized and a few of the images that were created are posted across my Facebook photo albums. I am surprised at the response or maybe more precisely  I should say, I am flabbergasted by the reaction of some the Facebook friends to the images displayed in the albums. It is not the content but the color of the content. Thank you all for the complements, I am truly appreciative. Is something wrong in the world of color photography? My world of color photography? My viewers world of color photography? Not being disrespectful of anyone, but some of our worlds of color photography could be lacking the "vivid". I am aware that a fair percentage of the world population which would also be representative on Facebook, has no inkling of photography, but given the association and the pressure that Facebook presents, they are forced to jump on the Facebook train so as not to be left behind. So they may acquire the economical computer package, with printer a

right place, right time, but no camera

It was my fault. Sunday I awoke about 4 AM to a blackout. I hear electricity went about 3. Whether it was load shedding or a plant breakdown, I have no idea, and I don't really care. I am not being facetious, insensitive or downright ignorant, but when you get to be my age, you don't get caught up in trivia and the inevitable of all man made devices. The blackout caught me off guard because I had not yet recharged my camera batteries from Saturday evening's shooting of the St Kitts Nevis Anguilla Amateur Radio Society's ham radio station setup for the Scouts Jamboree On The Air in the Circus downtown Basseterre. So I elected to go bicycling at daybreak without my Canon DSLR, because electricity was off and the city would be asleep. Just as I figured it, the usual walking exercise crowd was conspicuously absent, and no traffic was on the streets. Even the usual night shift security guards who live in the rural areas were not at the bus terminal. The City was asleep. N

the bicycling photo challenge resumes

Today started off as any other day. Every day begins the same, but every day is a new day for all living creatures, whether they like to believe that or not. Photographically no two days in the Universe are ever alike, no matter how hard we try to sync them. An image missed is irretrievable, even if you had a time machine to make another run. I am of the view that even with a time machine you would still not capture the missed image, because destiny cannot be altered. What is for you for you and what is not for you, just forget it. There are students who believe that you are the control for your own destiny, but I am not debating them, because I expect that they never get sick, miss an appointment or an opportunity ... but then again maybe they add that 'anomaly' to establish some real world living like the rest of us. I guess we will never know. Today I picked up where I left off some years ago. It has been so long ago that I can't recall the timeline. It was in the days

images, photos, pictures, facebook and more

Since I joined the Facebook community I have taken to viewing pictures almost every day. Facebook pictures fall into just two categories, namely those created by 'photographers' and those taken by everyone else. Just so that we are on the same page this is the definition for a photographer  , to wit, one who practices photography professionally. Colloquially, we refer to anyone with a camera as a  photographer, and usually find other adjectives to qualify their status. There is no doubt that given the imaging technology on the desktop today, the demarcation between levels of photographers, in relation to their status, is rather unclear if not non existent. Some folks can argue that this will never happen, and I could agree with that, until such time as the body that make the pronouncements, buckle under the global pressure and rewrite the definitions. Everything on this planet is managed by a body of humans who determine what is what, and sometimes even who is who. Of course

walkabout weekend asignments

Hail another Saturday, but surely not the same old, same old, because nothing for today in any way resembles any other day that we have ever experienced or will ever experience. The only thing in common is the name of the week day and its prescription bears no resemblance to any of the other fifty in 2009. Today we look forward to a whole new set of photo experiences, Every day you can look at a particular scene and it always seems to look the same, but the day you elect to photograph that scene, something 'strange' happens to it, and it looks different every time you compose and create an image from it. Maybe it has to do with our creative genius and that "next step beyond" that some of us take when we get into the photo shooting mode. I may be wrong in assuming that every photographer gets into that ESP mode, where you just get lost, or more like immersed in the shooting and image making, and when you review the images you sometimes wonder, 'who did this, I do

never ending photo self assignments

The British Airways eta was 15.35 but around 15.15 I took a glance at the western horizon, just in case, and lo and behold, there was the Iron Bird on final with a few  hundred meters to touch down, but I was ready this time, and managed to squeeze off 20 frames in the few seconds afforded. With the motor drive high you just pan with the action and let it rip. I am rather pleased with the additional images captured, but I still need to get another 20 images from over Government House, so the action continues next week Saturday, DV. It is sometimes humorous how photographers take hundreds of images to get just one. That was the first thing that I learned more than 45 years ago, and back then it was done with film, but let us not think about the cost, because today with the comparatively FREE digital film, I find it more than humorous that some photographers feel they can get the perfect shot in five or six. But they know what science they are working with so who am I to think. My meth

self assignment project

My photo self assignment continues today and I believe that I will finally have my way. Almost two months ago I decided to create images of the British Airways jetliner on approach to the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport, from my second floor veranda which faces North and runs perpendicular to the approach path, some 800 meters away or less. The British Airways flight from Britain to St Kitts is only on Saturday afternoon. I have not been able to capture the images I need over the last six or seven weeks, mainly because I have not been "in the right place and the right time" to effect the capture. When you are 'cooping' a jetliner that is passing a half mile away, across your sights at about 275 miles per hour, you may only have 5 seconds,  if so much, to get the shots, so you have to be awake, alert, and ready for the action. Last Saturday afternoon I was on the gallery waiting, but talking to family members and friends, so when I heard the jetline

Is Free and Cheap software better?

On one of my ham radio blogs a week or two ago, I made a conclusive comment on a piece of electronic equipment, as I saw it from where I was standing, and had to elucidate, as it were, for the benefit of a couple readers, not that they were not following my reasoning, but they did not quite see it from the other side of the room like I did. In browsing my last post I note that I made reference to a situation, and I think that I should also elucidate and maybe illustrate and demonstrate, so that readers can better appreciate my comment. We now live in the information age so we should not be skimping on info, nor should we be trying to withhold, as in hide, info and knowledge from our bothers and sisters. In paragraph nine [9] of the last post, inter alia, I wrote So I do not use Photoshop, not that I do not have it on my computer, but I do not use it to process my digital negatives. If you are serious about photography you will find out that there are far better and cheaper tools on

Photo school indeed!!!!

I believe that Facebook is a rather nice place to 'lime' if and when you don't have anything better to do. If because a person would always have something better to do, like sleep, instead of Farming at 2, 3 and 4 o'clock in the morning. When is your consciously controlled time to 'lime' with your Facebook friends and family. The Facebook addiction may be a reality but nobody is taking that on these days. It may be better to be facing-the-book than out on the street, and getting into trouble, because that usually finds you especially when you least expect it. The Government of St Kitts and Nevis should be pleased to see so many of our people Facebook farming, and I hope that when they drop this interest in the real world, they are prepared to deal with the Agricultural revolution. I have relatives who have already invested in hydroponic equipment to precipitate some cyber farming into the real world. I am concerned that we may soon see a migration to the real F

wow!!!! Do I go back to photo school?

The Bible believers will tell you that we are living in the last days, and I will have to agree with that, because it is written that things will not be as they appear to be, and what you knew to be the norm will surely not be so either. In June I expected that we would sail smoothly into an election campaign mode, but that has not happened the way most of us thought it would. Instead the country is embroiled in another "one of a kind" 21st century election campaign, which in my view, does not readily lend itself to the making of images that reflect ... [whoa] here we talk photos, so that talk may have to be on my 'home town' blog. I started these blogs to keep my mind active and have been kept quite busy on my ham radio blog with some scientific experiments that are going very well indeed. I would recommend blogging to all Senior Citizens who may feel that they are 'loosing it' slowly and don't know what to do about it. Of course if they want some seriou

... I will not be selfish

I am becoming like a President, as today I retract the statement that I made yesterday. I would be very mean if I did not offer any form of contribution to the photographic community from which we draw so much. I can speak to my own personal experiences and share some of them, with the hope that you may also seek to develop your own photographic expression. We recognize that the Internet offers an abundance of photography "gurus" and information, but no one has the time to browse even a fraction of these information sites. If per chance you get caught up browsing, you are missing the "light" and not making images, or taking pictures and photographs. I no longer consult the 5000 + bookmarks which I have. I have come to recognize that only a few photo websites are really noteworthy. My photo surfing is now mainly for photo products and some reference data. This works great for me because I am retired and have selected my major elective. There are a handful of website

... just plain and simple photography

This blog and photo blog is not going to bore you with any long talk on or about cameras, film, software, hardware, digital techniques, or any topic of photography. You are here to see photographs, pictures or images that I have taken at home in the beautiful, sunny, windy, rainy, sometimes stormy, twin island Federation of St Kitts & Nevis, set in the blue Caribbean sea. What you will see in my photo album is my own personal presentation, or more like my interpretation, which may at times appear to have nothing to do with actuality or reality. I will not resort to any acts of trick photography and will only use the few software tools at my disposal to process my digital negatives as I see fit. I am not promising an experience unlike any other, but you will be the judge and jury of that. For the photographically inquisitive and enquiring minds I will say this only once, and please don't ever ask again. Let me tell you up front that I am NOT an adobe photoshop fan, more like I
