... motorcade again
The celebration continues for the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party [SKNLP] Supporters. The SKNLP won 6 of the 8 electoral seats in St Kitts, while the opposing party, PAM, got 2, retaining one and increased by one. Now those who predicted the 6 to 2 may be hailed as 'experts' but some are saying that "it ain't done yet" so we will just have to wait and see if and when it "will be done" and if the outcome is improved to 7 to 1, again. To me the "will of the people" says it is 6 to 2, but some of the people seem to be working by and with another "will" and want to change that result. Anyway we all have the right to exercise our 'free will and choice' so we have to favour people gladly ... or whatever.
I thought that this thing would end on the 25th January and have already made plans to delete my Facebook election photo albums. If we are moving forward I do not think that we should keep photos of that past election event in front of the electorate all the time for the next 5-years, unless we want to continue the act of polarization. That is a political topic for the scientists, so let's leave that one there. To me the elections are done, that is a fact, so what follows now is like "matters arising from the elections", and I hope some of my educated youg Facebook friends can agree with that ... and I don't know about any fat lady singing. Maybe that is a new youthful thing that I have to catch up on.
Today it is the victory celebrations motorcade through all the constituencies. Many of the yellow shirt folks will put on their red shirts and join their red shirt friends on this exciting escapade. Some people and politicians have not caught on yet, but 27% of the young electorate have both red and yellow shirts, which they wear appropriately. You can see them in a PAM jam in yellow and in a Labour jam in their red. One friend of mine in Cayon nearly got a heart attack when the Pam candidate was announced as winner, and he saw known hard core red shirt wearers in their yellow shirts. So he has learned something new about the SKN politics.
I am not one for the motorcade so I will just snap a few of the supporters making merry, for my Facebook photo album, so that those who would not otherwise see this event can have a smile or a frown, or even make a rude comment, so that I can justify blocking them. Some people are just grouchy and get upset and vexed up with other people who are enjoying themselves, for a just cause or not. As they say, "go get a life".
So what happens next. Life continues. I will continue to take pictures of the things that interest me. I may again consider getting back into 'people' photography, if I can make it totally stress free. First I will conduct a feasibility study, because everyone has a digital camera now and access to good free software ... so they are photographers. Every now and then I hear someone bawl out about local "picture quality". Many clients have pictures made in the USA, Canada, UK, etc by professional labs, and that is baseline for them. Local reproduction quality has to match or exceed that, and the local folks are not satisfied. I stopped making small prints years ago, instead I will run them through the dot.com's kiosk machine down town. Outsourcing will prove to be a viable and economic solution.
I will operate from home so the silent killer [RENT] is already dead, but Murphy and my suburban location would seek to keep me down, so for 2010 a new approach and strategy is required. I may employ the services of a business development consultant, and I may find a friend or two who wants to do some work for their thesis, so we can both benefit from the exercise and experience. Entrepreneur business plan models hardly work, even if they are tailored for the Caribbean, and anyway, St Christopher is indeed unique ... and with us beginning to dance on the world stage that should be helping, but maybe the global recession has modified all the parameters.
Today looks good, but whether rain or not the red shirts will be out in their numbers, so will be those spectators who voted for or against, because it is party time again as the curtains come down on this 'phantom' extension to Carnival 2009/2010. Grab you camera and take a snap or two, this is history, and whether you like it or not, you are just part of it.
