... it is May again

It is that time of year again when people will be on the street in their hundreds and maybe thousands. All the rage is now putting people on the street as though in a practice session for something big and beneficial, like giving Thanks. December saw hundreds on the street with Carnival activities. January saw thousands on the street with Election action, and it is expected that May will bring thousands to the streets again, irrespective of sun, rain or snow. It is Labour Day once again and anything and anyone to do with Labour will take to the streets, with a whole 24-hour day to create the visibility.

Let me pause here for a moment to acknowledge the passing of my friend and co-worker for over 30-years, "small world", Mervin Hazel Esq., and express my sympathy and condolences to his wife and family. Mervin and I were both Senior Telecommunications Technicians and then Engineer/Managers with Cable and Wireless. I joined the staff of the Government Telephone Department in 1969 as did Terry Nisbett and Mervin Richardson. Mervin Hazel was there just before us along with Milton Herbert, Vincent "darkie" Stapleton, Ruben "wogger" Jones, "scientist",  Jimmy Heyliger, Stanley Phillip, Crooke and Patrick Mallalieu was the STE, Supervising Telephone Engineer. [I should write a book on this one day.]

ALL OF US are only passing through this world. I guess it is important what we do here, but some of us do not know what we are about. There are many teaching that one could subscribe to and they all seem to have some connection with after life, as though it is to do with preparation for it, so it seems incumbent upon us to get with the program and study "to show ourselves approved". For my part I believe in God, Jesus, the Trinity, and a whole lot more, and I have found how to tap into the Power of God with Prayer, and I can tell you, "It is working". I don't know what else is or is not working, but PRAYER and GOD works for me, and I hope that you to can find how to get it to work for you. End of this story.

May is the St Kitts Nevis Labour Party month. From the queen show at the beginning, to the requiem mass for the fallen stalwarts and  heroes of the Labour movement at month end, with the Party's Annual Convention some where in the middle. This is the first set of public functions after the historic 4-peat election victory in January 2010, and we expect that they will be great and out of sight. I have to be careful with these expressions because of the non virtual reality and "out of sight" could be just that, cannot be seen, like invisible, non existent ... but we don't expect it to be that, but we have to be careful in this illusionary "matrix" world in which we now live. So much for that ... like Steve Harvey and Chris Rock says ... "this is my blog" but I do not have your mouse ....

I felt young again, not playing young, and took on the Labour Queen pageant. When I used to go to Queen Shows years ago at least a quarter to one third of the audience were male, but for this pageant I was hard pressed to find men in the place. Even the judges panel only had a token male. I am not observing that women are taking over everything, because they are in the majority, as God wants them to be. We men need a lot of help with a lot of things, and women are here for that, but some men are just afraid, mortally afraid of women. No matter the big show and plenty talk in public, some of us are just like mice. What is the worst thing ever that can happen? Somebody get pregnant ... but it will not be me. I am holding my corner and everyone else keep out. Queen shows are obviously created for men, body building shows are for women, but the women have scared away the men from the queen shows. Anyway, let me leave that alone, for now.

Thanks to CLO, prayers, etc., I made the show, all night without nodding off in the side shows ... and for once rain did not come. I pray now that no rain come for the Independence pageant, nor the Carnival pageant, if I am attending them. This may sound selfish, but I am looking out for me.

I tried out a new Flash shooting technique using ETTL as this is my first pageant with a digital camera. My last queen show was pre-pre-2000 and the Canon EOS-1 and Kodak film was the order of the day. Film captures everything, as can digital if you shoot RAW, but I was shooting JPEG, for more reasons than two. All the snaps are in my Facebook albums. My next night time flash shooting session will be in RAW, and if I am not 101% satisfied I will have to get myself another Canon EOS-1 camera.

The Labour activity continue with a march and picnic today. Last year I took over 600 snaps before the rain came, but I am not hoping to out do that this year, but we will see. Here are snaps from the creative wear segment of the Labour Queen Pageant 1st may 2010 at Carnival Village.
