are we dumping it or loosing it?
Another week has gone by. Last week it was May and next week it is July. You sure somebody not playing around with a time machine? Maybe what you see on syfy these days could be the real thing, but they have to make it look like fantasy until we get comfortable with it, then someone somewhere will seek to reveal and expose, sparking controversy and discussion, and somebody[s] will make a million dollars on the side. Orchestration and management are best buddies, but you are not to small to try-a-thing in your corner of the world, the problem is that your partner-in-crime is going to want 51% from your idea, and if you are not careful it is back to Cain and Abel again. It works every time..
So what is happening in this corner. Photographically. I am not getting to "continue" with some blogs, but you really don't want all the details so no big thing there, and I am supposed to be posting photos not keeping up any long talk ... but I like letting off. The problem today is that many folks seem afraid to say anything about anything. You notice that I say "today is that ..." and not "today seems to be that" .... because that is the reality of life and living these day. The world is so full of spite, wickedness and disrespect that ordinary people are terrified to even wink, for what could happen when the eyelids are down for that split second, you better wink one eye at a time, so you maintain a watchful continuity of vision, and I seriously believe that many of them have also trained themselves to sleep with both eyes wide open.
The rat race ends with retirement, never mind that some retirees still think that they are in the real world and try hard to move and shake like the "all powerful CEO" they used to be, but they soon discover that retirement takes them to another level, and they have to adjust. The new lifestyle puts you a notch up on the old CEO, and don't think about the $216k per annum, the economic system is taking care of that, and all of a sudden you find that you can now live on $6k per annum, [$3k and less if you are a miser] and now "boops" like never before. "Boops" has not yet made it into dictionary.com, but when you live here in Liamuiga you know all about "boopsing", and it has nothing to do with anything contraband or illegal.
If you don't get the message above, it is not for you. It is strange, but most times you can perceive when something is for you, but you don't have to wear the hat. It is like how the local Pastor does preach and not call any names, sometimes they don't even gesticulate to make the point, lest it be said that they pointing at you, and if you want to "pee" you better hold it till church done, or everybody will think it is you he was talking about. That is why folks play it safe and don't even go to church anymore, or sit in the back pew when they do go. They forget that God is omni-everything, all seeing and knowing, and it is Jesus and not the Pastor they should be concerned about.
I believe that technology is helping some of us to finally kill our photography. I think 'tech' is great but suffer much abuse by users. One can get very caught up in "tech" and go overboard. Different 'tech' is available and applicable at various levels of and in photography. I am a 'tech' junkie up to a point, as I rely on my camera's technology for perfect exposures every time. There are also times when I must override the tech because my brain is better than the 18% gray card. Now, if the camera tech was zone system smart out of the box I would be happy, and send it out to shoot all by itself. There are still many photographers who feel that they can eyeball the exposure better than the camera tech ... that would work if you had all the algorithms in your memory and could then access them, but since you don't and can't, you must really be a "joker" to run a race against tech. Actually, all you really need is a 'pinhole' and the "Sunny 16 rule", and maybe catch "your ass" when there is no sun, or redeem yourself and smartly pull out your "Stouffer Exposure Guide".
So you created a digital image, and tech you must have to process, edit, print and display. I can go straight to display because I am looking for the real thing, capturing nature as it exist or as close to it as possible, given the capacity or ability of the photo reproductive tools. Not so with some folks, they seem not to be able to accept and appreciate Nature, and has to play God, and put their limited 'flawed' human spin on the digital capture. I draw my conclusions and create my own 'personal' profiles from what I see peddled in photo albums. Photos sometimes allow you to see inside someone's head, heart, mind and soul, but many of us are not mindful of that, nor do we care about the 'profiles' that we establish in this medium. Not that it is terrible important but it could become critical given the urgency and prominence given to "profiling" in these modern times.
Our world is built on imperfection, a reality which many of us don't or can't yet appreciate .. and the human species presents the greatest variety. All donkeys look alike, no question as to the physiognomy, so too are most others of that 'kingdom', and we do not seek to alter the reality of photographic appearance with any desktop technology when we display them. Those images are showed in a stark reality of life and living on our planet. That rule also apply to certain 'peoples' on the planet. We show them in their habitat everything preserved, total reality. Some of us do indeed use the 'tech' to enhance the reality as we see it and I have no problem with that.
I came up when no tech was available to photographers and fashion and figure photography relied on the expertise of the make-up-artist. Today we are dumping the real life human making-up-artists for a high 'tech' one on the desktop that costs us cents instead of dollars per hour, and one that will help us to finally kill real photography as we used to know it. You can now no longer appreciate the TRUE BEAUTY of our Caribbean women since they now share the same flawless digitized skin and makeup. Today's photographers seem bent on developing their digitized makeup 'skills' in preference to extracting the intrinsic and natural beauty of our Caribbean women, enhanced by our talented local makeup artists.
At the end of the day the teamwork will always win out, and that is why we have professional photo teams, to derive the maximum benefits possible from any photo session. Everyone has a significant part to play, and I hope that the photo tech junkies will leave our Caribbean women makeup to the real world makeup artist. Get the photographers to concentrate on capturing the best in-camera images possible, and let the photo album viewers be the judge and jury. Having said that, I know that some people wish to hide behind a mask, and it is their privilege to do so, and it is our 'job' to help them achieve their fantasy or reality. It takes all kinds to make our world, but photographers should be careful with what is dumped or lost as some of it could come back to haunt us one day soon.
