Election pep up
Independence 31 celebrations came and went, just like that. We are now heading for Carnival, but some people seem to be of the view that elections will come first. I sincerely hope that the wolf callers are ready and set to go when the bell rings. All along the bell ringer has been saying that he is ringing his bell in 2015, but nobody wants to listen. Politics in skn continues, and some people are already calling foul, following the speechifying at the Independence Ceremonial Parade, held in the hottest Cricket Stadium of the region. We know as adults that we always need to have a plan "B", and a backup plan for that too, and not just because SKN is unlike any other Nation on planet earth.
I have never taken pictures under stadium light until the CPL came to SKN. I saw that shooting for the cricket played on the wicket is different to shooting in the crowd and what I think is called the out field. But I am pleased with the results I got, given the equipment I used. Fortunately I am not into commercial photography, but every now and again someone wants a copy of something that I have. So I am forced to upgrade my hardware annually, to the latest affordable. I keep seeing people, known to be photographically knowledgeable, saying something like "it is the photographer that creates the image, and he can do it with any camera, so the latest and most modern camera is not a necessity".
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but you know that some of them are full of s**t, and others full of c**p. Of course those can't be talking about images for commercial use. Of course there are exception to everything, even in SKN. I suspect these are the kind of things said by people who always want to keep other people down. And sometimes they have the top of the line cameras, and even more cameras than they can ever use. My take on this is, go for the best and most sophisticated camera that you can afford, understand all the features and learn to use them in your photography. If you are just beginning and you can afford a Canon 1DX or 5D Mark 3 camera, go for it. You can get to the top of the ladder that much quicker.
Over the last few years I have literally starved myself to buy a couple cameras. In hind site I should have gone down to the banker and tried to get the top of the line camera available at that time. It is true that camera bodies are replaced every few years, but the better the build quality, the better the return on the investment. The Canon 7D top of the line crop sensor camera came out 5-years ago. Canon is just now coming out with the 7D Mark 2 upgrade. The camera models under the 7D are upgraded every 18 to 24 months. So treat yourself to the best model camera affordable. Since my camera the 7D is now obsolete I may have to look more closely at the 7D mark 2. Technically, under the law, I have 2 more years of guaranteed Canon service and repair. 7 years is that camera's legal maintenance lifespan.
Occasionally I run into people on the street who make comments like "your pictures are so clear". Honestly, I don't know what that means, because I am not doing anything extra with my pictures. I shoot in "RAW" which require a raw converter, to make jpeg. I do not use Photoshop or Lightroom [yet]. I believe that my pictures could look the way they do because I use Canon lenses. I have read, heard and seen videos of world known pro photographers who agree that this is what a canon lens does with images, tones and skin tones. With my Canon 7D camera and raw converter all I need to do is to "set it and forget it".
For September I am back to walking about before sunrise. All the pictures posted today are from my sunrise walkabout to the Buckley's roundabout on the F.T.Williams Highway. This week the Queen of the Night cactus on Shadwell Road is in bloom. The picture maker is the Canon 7D with 18-200mm IS walkabout lens. Walking really works. I feel stronger, can walk into the City and back home and not be out-of-breath. The next step is to take the bicycle from the garage. Now I have to look for smooth roads to ride on. I believe the F.T.Williams Highway may qualify as smooth, so I really don't have far to go.
October is next week, and Carnival is here, so what are we going to do?
Have a wonderful day
