skb day 29

Many 'things' received their head recently. skn is finally in election mode. The 6th and 16th are expected to be historic days. All days are historic as long as you can talk about it. Yesterday was an historic day, as was the day before. The 17th will be an historic day and our skn will continue to be a better place. It is not us who have placed skn where it is, and with or without us, skn will continue to prosper, and our people will have the greatest of health if they would only follow the principles of nature for longevity.

As to photography in this 'crazy' time of electioneering campaigns, which rival and even outdo carnival in many respects, I suspect the focus can be an aspect of 'candid portraiture', as some participants will display uncontrolled emotions at various times in the lifetime of the campaign. The carnival spectators are now the participants at election functions, the only thing lacking is a competition and pageant for king and queen, but then again maybe not, it depends on how you perceive the election results the day after.

Election photography, for want of a better expression, exists for some, and I get the impression that it can be lucrative, maybe extremely so, from behind the scenes. I do not try to fathom how election campaign cost can get to where we hear they are. But as Kermit might say, "that is not my business", so I leave that there. Let us enjoy the election campaign as best we can, and pray that our Candidate of choice wins his/her Constituency vote.

More people seem to be getting serious and interested about real photography. Within the last couple days I was accosted by a couple schoolboys who have a dslr and want to get into money making from professional photography. It was my duty to encourage them, because age is no barrier to being a pro photographer. A Google search will show that there are professional photographers who are not yet 16 years old, so we could also create a few of those under 16 professional photographers in our skn too. skn is just the right environment for that. It is the nature of Liamuiga for dreams and ideas to develop and grow. We are not born in Liamuiga, the fertile isle, by accident. But some people do not see that as yet.

I have the opportunity to use the Canon EOS-70D and it is likeable, with touch screen, etc. but I think the EOS-7D Mark 2 is the real deal for me. So I am putting aside my $40 a week so that I can have an EOS-7D2 by Christmas 2015. I feel comfortable shooting with a crop sensor  camera, no need for a full frame camera unless or until I graduate to  professional photography. I made the move from Pentax to Canon some 26 years ago [in the days of film] and have no reason to look at another camera brand since. Most folks look at mega-pixels, but my focus is on product service and maintenance after sales, and for me Canon is big on that.

One final thing, Canon lens quality is great, in all three lens categories, but out here in skn dust and mould, are unfriendly. Dust is everywhere, and if we don't use lenses often enough and store them incorrectly, the mould attacks. The solution is to invest in the best canon lenses, the L series lenses, sealed from dust and water. That is what all canon professional photographers use. And these lenses even outlive the Canon camera bodies.

The Quantum of the Seas visited again and I was able to see it up close.

Have a nice day.
