skb day 66
This election was not without FREE concerts, but as a senior citizen, I did not have the desire to damage my health in any way by being out all night, and having to resist the temptation of drinking anything harder than lemonade. I did not see many pictures online from these events, though I suspect that many cell phone/cameras captured these historic events. In the press these events were lauded as being highly successful. I attended a public meeting that was held on my street, mainly to tryout the EOS-70D camera under the available lights.
So we are into a new 'dispensation', a new Government, and some citizens are expecting the world of difference. Having gone through more than one change of government, I should know what to expect, but different people bring different strokes. I am accustomed to shooting from the sidelines and in the streets, and that will not change for me. I may now have to invest in a 400mm telephoto lens, because I may not be able to get as close to the action as before, but that of itself is not a problem. I may also need an assistant to carry the additional equipment, as new strategies and techniques must be deployed. My daily walkabout [exercise] continues, with my camera in hand.
So photography must be alive and well in skn. I have yet to interact with the local photographers to find what the photo weather is like in this new year. One popular downtown photo printing outlet lost its printing capability late last year, with the dance apparently not paying for the lights, I hope they can find their way back before Carnival 2015. There are three wide format public printers in the City so there is no loss to the photo ad industry. I suspect that some of these businesses may have received a good workout in the recent election season. But then again, this kind of 'work' comes with its "financial" difficulties, from what I have heard.
We are 66 days into a new year, let us see how photography will continue to thrive and flourish in skn. Easter, Culturama, Music Festival and CPL are up next.
Have a wonderful day.
