... I was wrong but right
These days I hear so much about "there is no wrong or right answer", that I am glad I was born last century before this complacent and compromising attitude became accepted as the modern way of life. Some people are still not accepting it while others welcome it with open arms, while wishing they had two more arm to hug it real tight. I do not subscribe to the notion that 'there is no wrong or right answer" but like the perpetrators I will elect to go with the flow for today, because I am holding fire in one hand and water in the other, and I am right and wrong with my last blog post some ten days ago. I know some will want to quote the Proverbs about a "double minded person" and you are totally right, but be careful when picking the beam, because it could be hazardous to your vision.
Like last week I still cannot see into the future and have to rely on the people who seem to think that their computer profiles and models of the historic weather data makes them a 'god'. Seriously though, some people really get ahead of themselves with their achievement, and may conclude that they have done it all by themselves, as though they created themselves in the first place. I have a slightly different outlook and appreciation for my 'drop in the bucket' achievements [as such], and I pray that I never get an inflated ego ... as there is always a pin out there waiting to prick it, stick it or dig it. So a couple weeks ago I was praying that no hurricane would visit us for Independence.
I hear that some people had prayer meeting asking for hurricane while other were praying for the hurricanes to just pass us by. It seem to me that both prayers are answered as we may have our hurricane passing by within the next 3 to 5 days. At this time I estimate hurricane Igor which is already at category 4, to be 632 miles practically due East of our beautiful island of St Kitts, in the Federation of St Kitts & Nevis. Nevis is more South so that puts them in a slightly safer place. The good thing is that Igor is moving West of northwest so it should not pass directly over St Kitts but just off our North coast ... assuming no change to the present direction. Unfortunately that puts the islands to our North more into the direct path of hurricane Igor and we should fervently pray that hurricane Igor moves hard to the North and skirt all these friendly islands.
Just a few days ago we had Earl that gave us a windy wallop from off the coast, but the great things was that Earl moved across the region at a good pace, but not so with Igor, taking its own dear time at 8 miles per hour. The average person walks at about 3 miles per hour. Those persons exercise walking on the F.T. Williams Highway may be walking twice as fast, and those brisk walking, jogging and running can be moving faster than hurricane Igor. So it is beginning to look to me like we could be in for some more windy blows and much harder than Earl. This is my take, but we have to be guided by the National pronouncements from the authorities that we have put in charge of ensuring our national safety, and then govern ourselves accordingly.
Let us take a look at what the scientists are telling us, and my official weather source is the National Hurricane Center found here
I am no expert on graphics reading so you will have to use your own layman expertise and common sense.
According to this we have noting whatsoever to worry about, and I hope they are right ...
And this is the icing on the Independence cake. We are not supposed to have any wind or rain for our Independence Celebrations ... according these scientists. And I hope they are 101% correct, and we will see.
We are still into the hurricane season, and no matter the forecast, it is incumbent upon us to be prepared and be ready for any emergency situation. I know that In SKN we do not form the fool nor joke around with sever weather, and I am reasonably sure that by Friday morning some of the shelves of our Mega supermarkets may be almost 'whistle clean' as our local folks get ready to do battle with hurricane Igor for Independence.
Well, the scientist say we not having any bad weather at all, but I am not taking any chances. Next week we will be able to say beyond the shadow of a doubt whether the weather was severe or not.
