.. no Independence hurricane this year
Let us pray that we do not get any Independence hurricane this year. I read in the papers that there are some political jokers praying for hurricane, and I hope that they and their families are totally hurricane proof. Everyone knows that the hurricane season peak is August to September, and for our Country it seems to be in September and just before our Independence celebrations. Should we or should we not fault the politicians for foisting this upon us? When people have the politics for breakfast, lunch and dinner, nothing else comes before then, ever, so we are stuck with the added excitement of peak hurricane activity along side our Independence celebrations. But people in our country seem to like excitement and may be really enjoying it, up to a point. Bizarre as it may appear to be.
As I scribe this the remnants of Gaston are out to our East and coming straight at us. This time around I am not hearing the 'experts' saying that this weather will hit us, or pass by us, as they did for Earl. But then this weather system is not a hurricane, at the moment, so it has no 'eye' as though that has anything to do with it. So in sum we may have a 'no eye' weather system heading for us and taking its own dear time to run us over at 10 to 15 miles per hour. I pray that it will not get any stronger before passing over us. I know that if we have enough faith, we can tell it "peace be still" and that is the end of that. But I am not one to meddle in Nature since it is not a personal bother to me. Weathering this stormy weather with knowledge of the true ROCK between your ears becomes a no-brainer, but many may not agree with me on that.
Hurricane Earl passed off our North coast at the end of August. A hurricane is a hurricane, in name and nature, but we did not seem to suffer the typical ravages this time around. I know that our people resolved that never again will a storm/hurricane impact us like Hugo, Georges and others. So we secretly [in our hearts] welcome the severe weather to test that we are indeed 'better prepared' than in the past. I am not saying invincible, because that would be flying in God's face, because he could allow the dark forces to unleash a 250 mile per hour wind hurricane upon us. And that is no smiling or laughing matter. Some of us have not seen rain falling on one particular house on a street ... and until you do, you may elect to scoff at things 'supernatural'. So much for that.
Earl made some historic moves on us. First ever and maybe last ever. On the first ever scene, Earl caused our Coastguard vessels to be successfully beached at Frigate Bay. We will have to see if this becomes an SOP [standard operating procedure] or an economic routine for the future. I must admit that we have some smart, creative, innovative and economically minded engineers, technocrats and politicians in SKN who may be thinking outside the box ... one more time. On the last ever scene, Earl brought the curtains down on the century old Sugar Factory Pier, located in the bay adjacent to to the Coastguard Pier and the Deep Water Port. Frigate Bay beach is still there for our sea bathing enjoyment, but the Sugar factory Pier is gone into eternity, and some of us will carry those joyous fishing and boating moments experienced there forever with us.
We do not wish that Gaston remnants or re-born leave any marks or scars upon our fair and beautiful islands. I calculate the leading edge of the approaching Gaston [remnants] weather system to be about 269 miles away and the trailing edge to be about 613 miles away. making the system just about 397 miles wide longitudinally. I am no weather expert and this is just my layman math. Travelling at 15 miles per hour this will take 26.5 hours to pass a particular point, that is from leading edge to trailing edge. I suspect that we are in for full 24-hr day of stormy weather excitement ... unless the prayer warriors do something and cause the winds to be still. Worse case scenario, the forward speed drops to 12 miles per hour, and we find ourselves under house arrest for 33 hours, almost one and a half days.
How early will we loose electricity and how soon will it return? Worst case scenario we could be without current for more than one whole day. Let us pray that no water runs down into the engine, so they have to shut it down. Well, I hear that water from the airport does run down into the engine, and I have not seen any press release from the appropriate authority saying that is not so. But we did not loose electricity for Earl so maybe the power generating system is really robust enough now, so we may be able to enjoy a normal lifestyle, watching TV and Facebook, while Gaston [remnants] is huffing and puffing .... if you know how to bind, then bind. If you know how to rebuke, then rebuke ... we do not need Gaston or any severe weather for our Independence in 2010.
