21-day cycle
I seem to be getting into a 21-day blogging cycle. That may be good for me, but I would prefer that it was my 21-day exercise program that was on target instead. Both exercises are important, but the physical exercise is a compulsory requirement if longevity is a factor. There are many mental routine replacements, just that they may not present us with real satisfaction, as they do not allow us to 'let off', and possibly help someone to make their day. Actually, given these living times, our days may be made even before we get out of bed. No more waiting. Welcome to living on the new edge.
Some of us set out to capture the seemingly elusive action. Photography is unique to some photographers. I believe to a large measure the successful capture of images can depend on the development, [personal and technical] and the image capture readiness of the individual photographer. There is always a situation when the images are available in abundance, but for reasons unknown, some photographers are unable to capture those images. It is being human to have a mental, psychological, or physiological, block at some time in life, so don't beat up on yourself when you just black out instead of snapping that once in a lifetime photo.
I believe that some photographers shoot themselves into a corner or container of sorts, from what I see being shared. It is unimportant whether the shared images are their best work or not. I am of the view that photography has morphed given all the existing imaging technology, but some of the "old timer photography proponents" adamantly refuse to 'let it go' and let the new wave of photography evolve and take over. But they should know that they cannot stop the inevitable new wave, only delay it. I subscribe to the new wave of photography and photographers.
I am still of the view that everyone should have some basic knowledge of photography. There are cell phone instructions in which the basic photo course is condensed into one page of the booklet, as they explain how to use their built in camera to create great professional looking images. It is really that simple. I can understand the pro camera makers wanting to stay in business, but with 41-mega pixels in a phone, and a couple of pro apps, it could look like the end of the DSLR line in sight. In reality there will always be someone who want what we now have, ultimately the law of supply and demand may be the final judge. In the worse case it becomes custom made by order only. So for now, I am totally enjoying myself and making the most of it.
As the world turns, I suspect that more professional photographers will turn away from DSLR cameras. Already many have gone the way of the mirror less camera. It makes a lot of sense, financial at least, but I am from the old school, and I can't get Canon DSLR out of my head. Photography has an entirely different meanings when you are "Professional" or "Enthusiast". I am an enthusiast, so that ends my story.
Many photographers will tell you that the camera machine is unimportant, and they may be right. I would agree that the camera body, may only become more important when one wishes to specialize in a particular category of photography, that demands a specific treatment. For general photography the camera body is certainly not critical. However the photographer's knowledge of the camera body with all it's features is of prime importance. What is of extreme importance is the quality of the LENS on the camera body. For any serious photographer it is not uncommon for the lens to cost far more than the camera body. So no matter what canon camera body is used, the lenses of choice should be the Canon "L" series, Luxury lenses.
It is coming up to the time when there can be many more 'things' to photograph in SKN. I have to say it that way because for most people some images only exist at Christmas and Carnival. It is the culture. For me, images are everywhere, every time, and all the time. A lot can be said about 'posterity', but that is not my call nor my focus. Given the digital nature of photography I would hope that many more of our photographers and inhabitants take the opportunity to capture the many unique images that are expected to exist at this time in our history and its celebrations.
The images presented with this blog were captured in the City on walkabout Friday 09th, August 2013.
