skb day 255

Independence 32 is here ... next week. I was expecting to hear and see ground breaking changes to the 'routines' surrounding this annual celebration.  Maybe it is just me, but I really expected some spectacular things for Independence 32, that would put last year's 31 in the shade. However, I am hopeful that Independence 33 will be the best year ever, given its 12 months of planning rather than 6. Independence provides many picture taking opportunities for residents and visitors, but it seems to me that only a few persons recognize this. The average resident is not wasting any photo memory in recording these historic national events for any reason at all. I have gone pass trying to figure this out, and leave this one for the social scientists. Ten thousand persons attended the Independence Parade. Everybody had a camera of some sort, but only the official photographers and a handful of enthusiastic viewers sought to capture images of the 'once in a lifetim...

skb day 187

It is a beautiful July morning, nice and cool, and a lovely day for cricket. I am not a die hard cricket fan, but I am doing my stint of 'patriotic' with my full support for the St Kitts Patriots. I expect them to share licks, and more licks on their home turf ... and let the party continue. Photography is still alive and well in SKN. On a personal note, I have changed my diets and exercise routines and I am feeling 21 again, and giving my GOD all the Thanks, Glory and Praise. Great health is what makes our life worth living, but many of us don't seem to know until 'the doc' tells us so. With all the free health information posted on Facebook these days, I perceive that many folks are looking more seriously at health, not necessarily 'their own health", but it is a step in the right direction.  Cautiously trying out a things or two may not be that bad for some of us. I tried out the "warm lemon water with honey first thing in the morning...

skb day 29

Many 'things' received their head recently. skn is finally in election mode. The 6th and 16th are expected to be historic days. All days are historic as long as you can talk about it. Yesterday was an historic day, as was the day before. The 17th will be an historic day and our skn will continue to be a better place. It is not us who have placed skn where it is, and with or without us, skn will continue to prosper, and our people will have the greatest of health if they would only follow the principles of nature for longevity. As to photography in this 'crazy' time of electioneering campaigns, which rival and even outdo carnival in many respects, I suspect the focus can be an aspect of 'candid portraiture', as some participants will display uncontrolled emotions at various times in the lifetime of the campaign. The carnival spectators are now the participants at election functions, the only thing lacking is a competition and pageant for king and queen, but t...

SIDF EXPO

Image
The SIDF EXPO at Independence Square on August 22nd 2014 was interesting and educational for me. The highlight of this event was the electricity lamp display. We all want to pay less and save more, so we all welcome the SIDF and its free LED household lamp project. For those of us who want to carry savings to another level, we only need to get the solar panels and matching power packs or power supplies, and we could be set for life. A one time cost outlay, and no bills to pay [for lights] for the rest of our life. I suspect there will be solar power supply options available for fridge, stove, washer, water heating and air conditioning. Most of us visit a restaurant or snackette, but we can't live by the light from our cell phone or portable device. Light and the absence of light, is what most photography is about. Some photographer always want to experiment with any light source available, to see if they can shape and bend the light to meet their demands. It is surpris...
