Today is indeed historic, and one of the history makers is my first INSTAGRAM post. I have been on instagram for a few years but could never get anything uploaded and posted from my desktop. Today just by accident my Google search indicate that there is now a permanent solution to my problem. Question is, how long will it stay operational. The marketing gurus seem to believe that a software change is necessary to keep clients and to generate more revenue. I am not disputing that, but they always seem to break every good thing, and unfortunately, they seem to lack the ability to fix it back. So we wait for the change and break.   Now this instagram access puts me in a spot, in that I have to relook at my photography. This does not affect what I do on other platforms, but I have to give this some thought and see where we go from here. This pandemic has changed everything for many if not all of us. The country is wide open again, but the popo still locking up people for op...

It is almost time.

Finally the end is in sight for stay-at-home, lockdown, in place, but we will forever engage in the protocols, a new wave of living with this lifestyle change. Change should not be difficult for anyone whose pastime or hobby is photography, but when it is your bread and butter, that is a whole different story. I am not sure how many "professional photographers" operate in our Federation, but I can think of two, maybe three, and I will leave that there. Anyone who makes a living exclusively from photography is a professional photographer. There are  many people who offer photo services, but do not fit the professional photographer definition. So much for that. Over the last year I have not interacted with local photographers, but with persons who had an interest in photography. Irrespective of the protocols, people will always need to capture an image of anything that interests them. Whether it is their family members or their pets. Actually, I see pictures from new Canon EOS...

All is well. Look again.

In looking through one of my photography Facebook Groups I notice a member's complaint, and I can feel his pain. ""GIVING IT UP ? - I’ve been seriously thinking of giving up this entire photography business and selling out. I’ve literally seen weddings being photo’s and filmed with iPhones and even streamed with multiple ones. I think the whole business is about to make a major shift in marketable content as content providers continue to search for (and acquire) lower cost solutions for their clients. One cannot continue to “upgrade” while the market continues to downgrade $$$. It’s a losing battle. Perhaps this is the year?"" Almost everyone goes through this phase. Some of us were more fortunate than others, but this is a reality and we need to help the brothers and sisters in photography overcome this mindset. We may be surprised at the Google response to posting that whole paragraph, in its entirety. To get a feel for this, Google the paragraph and see for y...

All is well, is it?

It has been over a year since I touched this blog, and I apologize to viewers for not making the trip here before, more so because I visit my amateur radio blog periodically in the same time frame. The pandemic has changed many thing for all of us, but the photo industry seems to have taken it all in stride, not saying that they had an early warning of the inevitable. The world is supposed to be slowly recovering, and we sometimes have to wonder if photography will be adversely affected, seeing that the image makers in some countries have personal challenges which could affect their composure in front of the camera. Some may not even wish a camera to be pointed in their direction. Photographers have developed strategies to deal with the mood swings of subjects especially when they begin to exert themselves in public places. We hope and pray that it does not come to this, but you never know. Over the last few months I have not seen pictures from many of the local photographers. No...

Quarter 4 update

Image
The beach outside the Public Market in Basseterre Bay.  I can live with this, and only hope that the person who maintains this piece of real estate is given all the support to keep the maintenance engine running. In days of old the strategy was to start fast, look good, and when people have gotten accustomed to the idea, subtly drop the ball, and we allowed them to work that one on us. Those days are now behind us, but some peole never learn, and still try to take us back into the dark ages. How can you convince those of us who born in electric lights, that it is better to use lamp. I tell you that some of them politicians crazy, or is it that they have a plan, and working on something to try put pon us? This is the photo blog, but we will look at a little politics in the wordpress blog later. In the last 12 months it seems that photography has gotten worse for some folks, but others seem to have discovered their missing link. Photography is like food and water, which we need ...

skb day 31 JUMP...

This picture of the Anthem Of The Seas was made from under my moringa tree in the side yard, 108-feet ASL up on the hillside, overlooking Port Zante and the Caribbean Sea. This could be just shy of a mile from Port Zante, as the crow flies. Today I am walking about with a Canon EOS-70D equipped with an ef-s 18-200mm IS lens.  You might find it interesting to know what  http://www.dxomark.com revealed about this lens and all the other lenses and cameras that they tested over the years. Please keep in mind that Information is only beneficial when it is used intelligently. Please be 'guided' accordingly. We have reached the end of 01/2016, month one in 2016, rather quickly it seems. How are you doing with your new year resolutions, plans, or whatever you call them? In particular, those that pertain to any aspects of photography and imaging? I expect that some of us are in the hold position, because that is what plenty of us like to do, and then we are forced to carry over ...

skb day 14 accelerate

Image
This seems to be the action word for 2016. Everyone seem to feel that all aspect of life and living are picking up speed, or maybe more correctly, have picked up speed. Time just goes by so quickly, before you turn around, it is gone. I am no expert on time, but I do not believe that some things, like time can change on us just like that. 60 seconds will always be one minute, and 60 minutes will always be one hour. So how is it that you cannot now complete the same task in the same time as before? According to my scientist cousin Tony, is it that we are slowing down? What other answer is there? It sounds logical, that we get slower as we get older. That is why Bolt will not be forever the fastest man in the world. But that is an extreme case, and maybe a bad example. In a different area, this slowing down is upsetting, and causes stress, and breeds violence. Young people are not willing to tolerate the natural process of the slowing down of older people in service delivery. The...

Well, the general elections have come and gone, and nothing has changed. People always seem to feel that everything will turn up, over, or upside down every five years, when the people who feel they are best suited to manage the affairs of the nation, make a bid so to do. Maybe for some people some things do change, but in reality, nothing changes. Life continues the same, nothing extra is added. We will still eat, sleep, shit and die, the same way, election or no election. Am I wrong? Some will eat more, sleep less, be constipated, but we will all die when the time has come to go. This is just a fact of life, and no need to worry or get upset. This election was not without FREE concerts, but as a senior citizen, I did not have the  desire to damage my health in any way by being out all night, and having to resist the temptation of drinking anything harder than lemonade. I did not see many pictures online from these events, though I suspect that many cell phone/cameras capt...

Election count up

Image
People still have national elections on their mind, but they seem to be talking less and less about it as they count up to e-day. Whenever it happens, it happens, and there is no point in trying to hustle it, unless the intention is to try to cause more self distress. I am no scientist but I believe that e-day could come upon us in as little as 25 days. If for some reason I am wrong, and I hope that I am, so that some people can get a chance to catch up on  themselves, e-day could be anywhere within the following 70-days. This is just my unscientific guesstimate. So from today we can begin the count up to 25-days or to 95-days, or somewhere in between. Pick whichever number makes you happier. Personally, it does not matter to me, because I know who I am and where I am heading. So bring on e-day anytime in 25 or 95 days or even later. The lead up to e-day comes with much excitement for all folks. Everyone in affected by e-day. Don't let anyone try to fool you about them not ha...

SIDF EXPO

Image
The SIDF EXPO at Independence Square on August 22nd 2014 was interesting and educational for me. The highlight of this event was the electricity lamp display. We all want to pay less and save more, so we all welcome the SIDF and its free LED household lamp project. For those of us who want to carry savings to another level, we only need to get the solar panels and matching power packs or power supplies, and we could be set for life. A one time cost outlay, and no bills to pay [for lights] for the rest of our life. I suspect there will be solar power supply options available for fridge, stove, washer, water heating and air conditioning. Most of us visit a restaurant or snackette, but we can't live by the light from our cell phone or portable device. Light and the absence of light, is what most photography is about. Some photographer always want to experiment with any light source available, to see if they can shape and bend the light to meet their demands. It is surpris...

Election ...!

Image
I don't feel like blogging today, but my new Facebook page puts my blog url in plain view, and knowing how inquisitive we human beings are, it pressured me to pen something positive. I do not have any problem saying what I think and how I feel, but  I am mindful of how I say it, because so many people these days have developed a thinner skin, and so many others are not blessed with the ability to discern, and so many more just have no clue what is really going on. So it is with the greatest of respect that I carefully say what I have to, and if you are wise, and in the know, you will follow along, but if you do not catch it at first, don't worry, you will catch up in good time as you become privy to more information and data. Given the politics in SKN, I have people who will insist on getting my views on certain happenings and goings on in our Federation. My response is not what most of them wish to hear, but yet they ask, knowing my response. Just in case you never hear...
