Today is indeed historic, and one of the history makers is my first INSTAGRAM post. I have been on instagram for a few years but could never get anything uploaded and posted from my desktop. Today just by accident my Google search indicate that there is now a permanent solution to my problem. Question is, how long will it stay operational. The marketing gurus seem to believe that a software change is necessary to keep clients and to generate more revenue. I am not disputing that, but they always seem to break every good thing, and unfortunately, they seem to lack the ability to fix it back. So we wait for the change and break.   Now this instagram access puts me in a spot, in that I have to relook at my photography. This does not affect what I do on other platforms, but I have to give this some thought and see where we go from here. This pandemic has changed everything for many if not all of us. The country is wide open again, but the popo still locking up people for op...

It is almost time.

Finally the end is in sight for stay-at-home, lockdown, in place, but we will forever engage in the protocols, a new wave of living with this lifestyle change. Change should not be difficult for anyone whose pastime or hobby is photography, but when it is your bread and butter, that is a whole different story. I am not sure how many "professional photographers" operate in our Federation, but I can think of two, maybe three, and I will leave that there. Anyone who makes a living exclusively from photography is a professional photographer. There are  many people who offer photo services, but do not fit the professional photographer definition. So much for that. Over the last year I have not interacted with local photographers, but with persons who had an interest in photography. Irrespective of the protocols, people will always need to capture an image of anything that interests them. Whether it is their family members or their pets. Actually, I see pictures from new Canon EOS...

All is well. Look again.

In looking through one of my photography Facebook Groups I notice a member's complaint, and I can feel his pain. ""GIVING IT UP ? - I’ve been seriously thinking of giving up this entire photography business and selling out. I’ve literally seen weddings being photo’s and filmed with iPhones and even streamed with multiple ones. I think the whole business is about to make a major shift in marketable content as content providers continue to search for (and acquire) lower cost solutions for their clients. One cannot continue to “upgrade” while the market continues to downgrade $$$. It’s a losing battle. Perhaps this is the year?"" Almost everyone goes through this phase. Some of us were more fortunate than others, but this is a reality and we need to help the brothers and sisters in photography overcome this mindset. We may be surprised at the Google response to posting that whole paragraph, in its entirety. To get a feel for this, Google the paragraph and see for y...

I am gonna jump ..

Greetings, Happy New Year, Welcome to my photo blog for 2017, never mind that we are closer to year end than beginning. I post pictures almost every day on Facebook but somehow scribing a few words here just slipped my mind.  This should be a pretty active year but I will try to be brief and keep out of trouble. The only troublesome 'thing' in skn is politics, and I am keeping out of that. These days everything has a political flavour, but I am trying very hard not to be contaminated, maybe touched is a better word, so as to maintain my sanity. Speaking of sanity, it appear to me that insanity is on the rise as more people get themselves involved in some aspect of politics. I would add 'that does not concern them', but many would disagree with that, as the feeling seem to be that everything about politics concerns everyone.  I don't mean to sound insensitive, but I believe that we should let the politicians be themselves and do what they do best. I do not see u...

skb day 14 accelerate

Image
This seems to be the action word for 2016. Everyone seem to feel that all aspect of life and living are picking up speed, or maybe more correctly, have picked up speed. Time just goes by so quickly, before you turn around, it is gone. I am no expert on time, but I do not believe that some things, like time can change on us just like that. 60 seconds will always be one minute, and 60 minutes will always be one hour. So how is it that you cannot now complete the same task in the same time as before? According to my scientist cousin Tony, is it that we are slowing down? What other answer is there? It sounds logical, that we get slower as we get older. That is why Bolt will not be forever the fastest man in the world. But that is an extreme case, and maybe a bad example. In a different area, this slowing down is upsetting, and causes stress, and breeds violence. Young people are not willing to tolerate the natural process of the slowing down of older people in service delivery. The...

skb day 29

Image
Many 'things' received their head recently. skn is finally in election mode. The 6th and 16th are expected to be historic days. All days are historic as long as you can talk about it. Yesterday was an historic day, as was the day before. The 17th will be an historic day and our skn will continue to be a better place. It is not us who have placed skn where it is, and with or without us, skn will continue to prosper, and our people will have the greatest of health if they would only follow the principles of nature for longevity. As to photography in this 'crazy' time of electioneering campaigns, which rival and even outdo carnival in many respects, I suspect the focus can be an aspect of 'candid portraiture', as some participants will display uncontrolled emotions at various times in the lifetime of the campaign. The carnival spectators are now the participants at election functions, the only thing lacking is a competition and pageant for king and queen, but t...

Election pep up

Image
Independence 31 celebrations came and went, just like that. We are now heading for Carnival, but some people seem to be of the view that elections will come first. I sincerely hope that the wolf callers are ready and set to go when the bell rings. All along the bell ringer has been saying that he is ringing his bell in 2015, but nobody wants to listen. Politics in skn continues, and some people are already calling foul, following the speechifying at the Independence Ceremonial Parade, held in the hottest Cricket Stadium of the region. We know as adults that we always need to have a plan "B", and a backup plan for that too, and not just because SKN is unlike any other Nation on planet earth. I have never taken pictures under stadium light until the CPL came to SKN.  I saw that shooting for the cricket played on the wicket is different to shooting in the crowd and what I think is called the out field. But I am pleased with the results I got, given the equipment I used. For...

Election countdown

Image
The election countdown has started for those people who always in the know, but some on the sideline who are working with their mouth shut are counting up. I am not into counting up or down, and I am still listening to hear what better I will get now from this united front. I want it now, not next month or next year, and if you can't deliver it now, I am not interested in what gold and silver you claim will be given out later, if and only if, favour is found with the majority. I know what I have in my hand now, and I am not willing to open my hand and let that go, and hope that by chance I may be able to grab something else. I am not sure that even a monkey will open its hand to grab at something else. In my small days I read in a Caribbean Challenge magazine, that the monkeys were caught because they would not open their hand once it was caught in the trap. So it seems that I am already caught, and that ends the story. I do not waste my time to read what polls say because an...

Election a come

Image
I like it here in St Kitts and Nevis. We are never short on excitement. Cricket ain't well finish, the know it all media is giving us a date for the General Elections in SKN, which are constitutionally due in 2015. I just love this place. Music can't done. Photography can't done either. News can't done. The never ending monthly excitement continues. I also hope we are getting just as excited over the second coming of the KING. There are many things to talk about in SKN, but when Federal elections are in the air, many of these life changing issues just get deleted, because the next government of the people is expected to usher in "a new thing", like heaven on earth. I have been around for a while and I am yet to see this happen. It may be true that some circumstances or situations improve, but the changes that the people really think that they want do not happen. And it is like the would be politicians forget what they told the constituents in the campaig...
