S.K.N.P.S.
Today, July 1, marks the beginning of the rest of 2014 and I
am indeed grateful to be still here to share some of the little that I know and
do with someone. “Thanks be to GOD”. Some of us are here for the thousands but
I am most pleased to be here for the ‘one’. Sometimes we know who that ‘one’
may be, sometimes we don’t. To me it does not matter who you are, but it
matters that you get what is meant for you. Complicated? Nope! We are all here on this planet to help someone
else, solve a problem, overcome a difficulty, share a knowing smile, give a
word, or do something amazing, that to us may seem insignificant. Some us try
our hardest not to give away anything, even though ”LIFE” has been giving to us abundantly.
We cannot reap what we do not sow, but some of us do, with a great measure of
success. This is nothing new, maybe it is human nature at its best, or if you
are on optimist, maybe at its worst.
I do not make ‘new year’ resolutions, as it will waste my
time. I cannot afford to wait 12 whole long months before I make any
significant change. It is most convenient to make changes immediately, as determined
necessary. For those who need ‘structure’, monthly is best, if it can be
handled. In reality only a handful of people make real New Year resolutions. I must
admit 'NYR' it is a good talking point though. Starting now I am looking at
certain aspects of my photography differently. My camera does video but I am opposed
to shooting video. I know that I have to overcome this and starting now I will
try to create a video a week. I am on the street every day, so that should be
easy. Pick subject. Click live view. Press video button. Pretty easy, then I will
leave the rest to NERO.
I was also thinking of moving from “straight out of the
camera” to processed images for Facebook, but every day I see photographers seriously
complaining about people hijacking their images, removing watermarks, and more.
In addition I need an upgrade to a 64-bit machine and plenty of processing
time. All that looks like stress to me. Not my cup of tea. If Flickr can guarantee 101% no hijacking of images now, maybe I can think about that. But I am still not taking
their word for it, because these days nothing and nobody is hack proof. Occasionally
I run into young people who have ideas for using my Facebook images, no
problem, send me an email, let’s get together with my Facebook TEAM and see
what we can make happen. So what else is new and happening at http://www.facebook.com/keeth.france
and http://www.facebook.com/KeethFrancePhotos
Last week I drafted an email to the Facebook local
photographers, challenging them to form a national organization, the “Photographic
Society of St Kitts and Nevis”, S.K.N.P.S. Then I decided against sending out the email. I
believe that we have long passed the right time to have a national Photographic
Society in St Kitts and Nevis. We seem to be a people that look for the
establishment to do everything for us, and when they get around to doing it, we
get up in arms and have much to say, while we are not doing anything to help
ourselves. Maybe I should have a ‘photo’ chat with the folks at the Ministry of
Culture and the National Trust. Maybe they can help to birth something.
Music Festival 18 is history. Culturama 40 is up next. Somehow
I get the impression that some people want Culturama 40 to be bigger and better
than Music Festival 18 plus the Sugar Mas St Kitts Nevis National Carnival. Nothing
is wrong with that, and I am most happy that people in our Federation are now beginning
to think BIG, because that is the in thing now. WINNING BIG is the now thing.
If you can’t do it BIGGER and BETTER, you better sit down, shut up and get out
of here. Now let’s see some walkabout pictures from last week
