  Greetings It has been a while since we blogged here, but we are outside again.  The world has dramatically changed  in a few short years. Some of us are still awaiting an apparent appropriate and convenient time to restart our business, and other stages of our life and living. In our area of the Caribbean region almost all of us are outside again, and all borders are open for travel and business. It is not so in other areas of the world, and we hope and pray that it would not be long before everything is back to normal. Technology is not waiting for humans, and the developers and inventors are stepping into otherwise new and uncharted areas of software development.  The move to mirrorless cameras continue. I can see the move of some photographers to upgrade to the latest technology.  I was begining to look out for CARNIVAL 50, even though it was not going to be anything like what we have grown accustomed to over the years, but it would be something rather than nothing, but now the people in charge are putting certain "things" on pause because another "strain" is supposedly on the loose. I do not have any problem with cancelling anything, and changing plans and programs in the public interest, because we should expect this action from people who are trying their very best to err on the side of caution, and to keep our nation safe. However, nothing has been said yet about the possible effects of the "strain"on our CARNIVAL 50 which is running in de bubble. It is very strange that this or similar action did not apply to the International Cricket hosted in SKB just  months ago, where our safety was tried, tested and proven with a real community spread in the thousands, during the tournament period, but evasive action is already put in pla...

  Today is indeed historic, and one of the history makers is my first INSTAGRAM post. I have been on instagram for a few years but could never get anything uploaded and posted from my desktop. Today just by accident my Google search indicate that there is now a permanent solution to my problem. Question is, how long will it stay operational. The marketing gurus seem to believe that a software change is necessary to keep clients and to generate more revenue. I am not disputing that, but they always seem to break every good thing, and unfortunately, they seem to lack the ability to fix it back. So we wait for the change and break.   Now this instagram access puts me in a spot, in that I have to relook at my photography.  Finally the end is in sight for stay-at-home, lockdown, in place, but we will forever engage in the protocols, a new wave of living with this lifestyle change. Change should not be difficult for anyone whose pastime or hobby is photography, but when it is your bread and butter, that is a whole different story. I am not sure how many "professional photographers" operate in our Federation, but I can think of two, maybe three, and I will leave that there. Anyone who makes a living exclusively from photography is a professional photographer. There are  many people who offer photo services, but do not fit the professional photographer definition. So much for that. Over the last year I have not interacted with local photographers, but with persons who had an interest in photography. Irrespective of the protocols, people will always need to capture an image of anything that interests them. Whether it is their family members or their pets. In looking through one of my photography Facebook Groups I notice a member's complaint, and I can feel his pain. ""GIVING IT UP ? - I’ve been seriously thinking of giving up this entire photography business and selling out. I’ve literally seen weddings being photo’s and filmed with iPhones and even streamed with multiple ones. I think the whole business is about to make a major shift in marketable content as content providers continue to search for (and acquire) lower cost solutions for their clients.   It has been over a year since I touched this blog, and I apologize to viewers for not making the trip here before, more so because I visit my amateur radio blog periodically in the same time frame. The pandemic has changed many thing for all of us, but the photo industry seems to have taken it all in stride, not saying that they had an early warning of the inevitable. The world is supposed to be slowly recovering, and we sometimes have to wonder if photography will be adversely affected, seeing that the image makers in some countries have personal challenges which could affect their composure in front of the camera. Some may not even wish a camera to be pointed in their direction. Photographers have developed strategies to deal with the mood swings of subjects especially when they begin to exert themselves in public places. Friday afternoon roadside advert on my street January almost half gone, and I am just getting here  ... Happy New Year. Sugar Mas 48 was a big surprise and it caught me off guard. What I expected and planned for did not come.   Life is like that. We plan for things because we believe that we know, but we cannot take all the variables into consideration, because there is always that one unknown elusive factor, which holds the key to the result that we expect. In time we learn to live with the results, unfortunately, some of us never learn to re-adjust our mentality to suit the new environment. But SKB is a place where the impossible does not exist for all those of the correct mindset. The beach outside the Public Market in Basseterre Bay.  I can live with this, and only hope that the person who maintains this piece of real estate is given all the support to keep the maintenance engine running. In days of old the strategy was to start fast, look good, and when people have gotten accustomed to the idea, subtly drop the ball, and we allowed them to work that one on us. Those days are now behind us, but some peole never learn, and still try to take us back into the dark ages. How can you convince those of us who born in electric lights, that it is better to use lamp. Liverpool Row, Basseterre, St Kitts It is a beautiful day in skb. Just had breakfast, one helping of oats with two bananas, raisins and cinnamon, sweetened by honey and sprinkled with Moringa powder food supplement. As you may know I eat my Moringa food supplement every day, except on Sunday. Friends tell me that a person has to fast at least one day in the week. And it seems to be working for me. While I am on the topic of Moringa, let me say emphatically, that I would not be walking around today without the help of Moringa, grown in SKB and created by GOD. Greetings How is your photography going for 2018? Every now and then I meet some school kids, especially school girls, who have an interest in photography. Many of them lament that they do not have a "conventional" camera, and claim that may be   stopping their photographic growth. I take a minute to remind them that almost everyone in skb is walking around with a camera inside their phone, and that many professional photographers are now using their phones to take their professional pictures at weddings and other events. Their skb phones may not be the powerful Iphone6S, but it can take pictures, very good pictures, and it is a great starting point. It is not all about the photographic device, but about the person behind the device, and their knowledge and application of the photographic principles. There are many things that we need to address in our bright and beautiful skn. Maybe my pictures can help to remind us that we are not an island unto ourselves. I can see Port Zante from where I live up on the hillside, but someone built a 3 storey house on Sprott Street and blocked my view. No problem. Greetings, Happy New Year, Welcome to my photo blog for 2017, never mind that we are closer to year end than beginning. I post pictures almost every day on Facebook but somehow scribing a few words here just slipped my mind.  This should be a pretty active year but I will try to be brief and keep out of trouble. The only troublesome 'thing' in skn is politics, and I am keeping out of that. These days everything has a political flavour, but I am trying very hard not to be contaminated, maybe touched is a better word, so as to maintain my sanity. Speaking of sanity, it appear to me that insanity is on the rise as more people get themselves involved in some aspect of politics. I would add 'that does not concern them', but many would disagree with that, as the feeling seem to be that everything about politics concerns everyone.  I don't mean to sound insensitive, but I believe that we should let the politicians be themselves and do what they do best. This picture of the Anthem Of The Seas was made from under my moringa tree in the side yard, 108-feet ASL up on the hillside, overlooking Port Zante and the Caribbean Sea. This could be just shy of a mile from Port Zante, as the crow flies. This seems to be the action word for 2016. Everyone seem to feel that all aspect of life and living are picking up speed, or maybe more correctly, have picked up speed. Time just goes by so quickly, before you turn around, it is gone. I am no expert on time, but I do not believe that some things, like time can change on us just like that. 60 seconds will always be one minute, and 60 minutes will always be one hour. So how is it that you cannot now complete the same task in the same time as before? According to my scientist cousin Tony, is it that we are slowing down? What other answer is there? It sounds logical, that we get slower as we get older. That is why Bolt will not be forever the fastest man in the world. But that is an extreme case, and maybe a bad example. In a different area, this slowing down is upsetting, and causes stress, and breeds violence. Young people are not willing to tolerate the natural process of the slowing down of older people in service delivery. The...

After today there are 67 days remaining in this year. No one is certain that they will see tomorrow, but with FAITH in GOD and a HOPE for a long LIFE we plan for the future with a certain degree of reckless abandon. We all need to take a moment to consider our every action, especially the effect on each other. Knocking ourself about is okay, if that brings us joy, but indiscriminately sharing that kind of joy to our neighbour should not be your prime focus. Unfortunately, some neighbours agree that is the correct approach for this new age we live in, and insist on foisting this new attitude upon the rest of us. Fortunately, some people say that we deserve better, but in this world it is not about saying so, but doing so, putting our mouth into gear, and also our hands if necessary.  If you know where I am coming from, I am happy for you. Independence 32 is here ... next week. I was expecting to hear and see ground breaking changes to the 'routines' surrounding this annual celebration.  Maybe it is just me, but I really expected some spectacular things for Independence 32, that would put last year's 31 in the shade. However, I am hopeful that Independence 33 will be the best year ever, given its 12 months of planning rather than 6. Independence provides many picture taking opportunities for residents and visitors, but it seems to me that only a few persons recognize this. The average resident is not wasting any photo memory in recording these historic national events for any reason at all. I have gone pass trying to figure this out, and leave this one for the social scientists. Ten thousand persons attended the Independence Parade.
